Abstract

Animal studies have shown that Nigella Sativa oil can accelerate the wound healing process. Th e aim of the current study is the evaluation of the preventive eff ect of Nigella Sativa oil on the infl ammation score of oral mucosa in rats undergoing chemotherapy. In this animal-experimental model, 32 rats were divided into the control and the treatment groups. Th e treatment group was pretreated by 400 micro l / kg NS oil once a day for 15 days then both groups were received chemotherapy. Th e injections of the treatment group were continued throughout twelve days. All rats were euthanized 12 days later then their buccal mucosa was assessed histopathologically. Our results showed that the infl ammation score in the treatment group is signifi cantly lower than the control group. According to our fi nding, pretreatment with Nigella sativa has some therapeutic eff ect on prevention of stomatitis due to chemotherapy in rats.
