Biography
Fami Foundation (Fondacija fami) is the leading national NGO in the health and social sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) with more than twenty years of experience in implementation of health care projects. Based in Sarajevo and in Doboj, the Foundation brings together twelve experienced and dedicated professionals who lead all project operations to strengthen the health systems in the country. As such, it has established a tight network of partners abroad and in the country at the national, regional and local levels, such as health and education institutions and facilities; national and local governments; nursing organisations and suchlike. Its support and activities range from basic training to tertiary education, from adhoc capacity building to continuous professional development, and introduction of family medicine and community nursing, adolescent health, health promotion and palliative care. The Foundation’s goal is to increase access to, and improve the quality of, health
and social care provided to the Bosnia and Herzegovina’s population, and to contribute to better accessibility, comprehensiveness and continuity of health and social care, particularly for vulnerable and socially excluded groups. Together with strategic international partners, it offers support to all segments of the health and social care system and often complements existing public and private institutions in their endeavours. The Foundation’s current largest endeavour is the Strengthening Nursing in Bosnia and Herzegovina Project funded by the Swiss Government, that it is implementing together with its partner the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) and the relevant national institutions. In a nut shell, the project deals with all aspects of nursing by supporting the enhancement of professional environment, access to community
nursing and formal nurse education.
